A facial is basically a work out for your face. which equals tons of circulation on the skin. We also have many lymphatic channels underneath our skin that can be clogged & accumulate many toxins. The massages associated with your facial is practically draining your lymph nodes, flushing out toxins, & delivering fresh nutrients to your skin cells. That break out you might be experiencing is a good sign of fresh new skin awaiting you & it is only temporary.
This is a totally normal reaction ! Active ingredients, acids, massages, & deep extractions (blackhead removal) are most probably the reason you are experiencing dryness or tightness on the skin. If you already have a dry skin type, the acids are working very hard to pass through those dry layers of skin. Be patient! Moisturize on damp skin , eat many omega 3 acid filled foods, & apply hyaluronic acid regularly. Ceramides are also a great option.
Yes, dermaplane is a safe non invasive procedure for everyone , even pregnant woman. However, there are some things to ask your self before you try it out. Have you ever removed hair from your face via laser, threading, shaving , or waxing? If so, dermaplane is probably a better option & wont purge unexpected hair growth. Being that this procedure also remove dead skin from the first layer, it also happens to remove hair along the way too! Another more complex question to ask yourself is if you have any hormonal/endocrine related issues like PCOS . This may cause a hormonal strike in your hair growth resulting in dark and thick hair on your face. Most of the time, this is not from hair removal of any kind, but rather your internal health. Consult with your esthetician before your session & they will be able to tell you if this option fits you.
Your esthetician will usually tell you what time frame is best for your skin type, but it really depends on your personal skin goals. If you are looking to make self love a ritual (which you definitely should!) every few months should be fine. However , if you are looking for optimal skin health results your visits should be more often. Consistency is key to seeing amazing results. If you have a combo/oily/or acne prone skin type, once monthly is best. If you have a dry/or mature skin type, every month in a half or two months should be great for maintenance. Products & diet should be discussed with your esthetician for even better results. What's a bodybuilder without it's protein source right?
The best way to speed up the healing process is the following: If you are experiencing dryness or tightness , apply moisturizer & ceramides on damp skin. If you have red/brown spots after extractions from blackheads or pastules, apply sunscreen (zinc oxide based) to lighten them faster, this usually does the trick. Be patient & don't forget to book your following appointment on time.
Sunscreen is meant to provide a protective barrier between UVA/UVB rays that can create sunspots, quicker aging, & even acne at times. A chemical sunscreen absorbs into the skin & then absorbs rays, which then turns into heat that exits the body. However, it is basically the "fast food" of sunscreens because it contains many endocrine & kidney disruptions that can lead to cancer. Physical sunscreen on the other hand is derived from zinc oxide & titanium dioxide, which then simply creates a barrier between your skin & UV rays. This is definitely a healthier option!
After your facial you will notice that your skin is more open & lightweight. This is literally the case after your session & should be taken very seriously. You want to give your skin time to breathe & relax from any heavy creams & applicants. For better results, wait 2-3 days before applying an makeup & in an emergency case where you do need to apply it, be sure to apply alot of primer on the skin before you do so!
The answer is before! Sun exposure can be very difficult to do a facial on top of if you are sunburned or simply tan. Getting a facial before a vacation is a better choice & actually very smart. Your skin will be able to take a break & relax from any heavy makeup, environmental stressors, & you will feel really fresh & glowy on your trip too!

The best way to avoid sun spots is through sun care & skincare daily. If you are using AHA or any type of retinols ,your sensitivity to the sun can become greater. This leads to your skin being more prone to sun spots or hyper- pigmentation. Make sure you are avoiding high sun times from 10 AM to 4 PM. This is when the sun is at its highest point & can damage your skin if left without a physical sunscreen. Be sure to wear a hat & sunscreen if you will be in high sunny places. Be sure to make reapplying your sunscreen (physical sunscreen) a priority. Skincare should also be taken seriously for prevention & improvement. Vitamin C, retinol, glycolic acid, & other AHA's can definitely be a great way to combat hyper pigmentation.
